mockingjaySci-fi films are having a pretty solid year as far as box office receipts go. Guardians of the Galaxy became the first movie of 2014 to top the $300 million mark domestically, and Transformers: Age of Extinction somehow crossed the billion dollar threshold internationally. Then there are the likes of Godzilla, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and The Maze Runner, which al performed well in theaters. And we still have what could be two of the biggest on the way, Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1, and if the latter follows the same path as its predecessors, we may very well be talking about the highest grossing movie of the year. To make sure that happens, Lionsgate is pumping their movie mercilessly, including this new collection of stills.

As expected, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), the star-crossed young lovers of the franchise, have been at the center of much of the hype. These photos, however, take another approach, showing off some of the characters that, while important parts of the story, definitely fall into the secondary and supporting categories. These all come via the film’s Instagram account. We truly live in a magical age.

Mockingjay, the first part of the final chapter (the third book in Suzanne Collins’ trilogy is being split into two movies), finds Katniss free from the clutches of the Capital, but stuck in a different pickle. In District 13, which most thought was destroyed long ago, she becomes the face of the burgeoning rebellion against President Snow (Donald Sutherland) and his forces. Wracked by trauma and survivor’s guilt, she is essentially a pawn in a propaganda war between the two sides, and has to figure out a way to rescue Peeta from Snow. It’s tough out there for a teenage heroine.

The Hunger GamesHere you see Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin), who is in a similarly broken mental state as Katniss…

The Hunger Games…Cesar Flickerman (Stanley Tucci), whose dyed eyebrows creep me the hell out.

The Hunger GamesNatalie Dormer as Cressida has popped up many times, and she’s back again to show off that hairdo and stylish head tattoo. She’s been featured so often in the promo that I’m curious to see how big a role she actually plays in the film.

The Hunger GamesCressida is a director who leads a camera crew into battle to capture footage of Katniss and her Star Squad being heroic, and her team is composed of Castor (Wes Chatham)…

The Hunger Games…and Pollux (Elden Henson).

The Hunger GamesAnd because they’re going into combat, you’re correct to assume that there are other soldiers around as well, and one of them is Boggs (Mahershala Ali). Though he’s definitely a soldier for the District 13 cause, he actually appears to have Katniss’ best interest at heart and is an illustration that not everyone everywhere is a total duckweed.

The Hunger GamesYou also get another look at Gale (Liam Hemsworth), the other leg of the love triangle, and you can’t help but feel a little bad for him. He’s just in love with his childhood friend, but by this point it’s become abundantly clear to all of us that he’s not winning that particular battle. Poor Thor’s brother.

The Hunger GamesBeetee (Jeffrey Wright) also shows up, and though he’s now wheelchair bound, he still has plenty of technological knowhow and inventiveness to go around and help out.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1 opens everywhere on November 21, with Part 2 following a year later on November 20, 2015.
