The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Prepares For Battle In This Collection Of Stills

The Hunger GamesJust in case you forgot, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1 is fast approaching. To remind you, earlier today with got a new clip, and because you can never be too aware of big Hollywood blockbuster, they’re back Legendary is back with a new collection of stills from film.

In the wake of last year’s Catching Fire, the middle book in Suzanne Collins’ massively best selling trilogy, Mockingjay finds heroine Katniss Everdeen hanging out in District 13, which was previously thought to be destroyed, and where she has become the public face of the rebellion that burns through the dystopian world of Panem. That in and of itself is a lot of pressure for anyone, but when you pile some PTSD, survivor’s guilt, a love triangle, and other things on top of that, she has quite a bit to deal.

The Hunger Games
The Hunger GamesWhile there’s nothing too terribly groundbreaking going on in these photos, most of key players and primary figures are well represented here. There’s Katniss, of course, played by Jennifer Lawrence, now the world’s highest grossing female action star.

The Hunger GamesHer new job finds her as part of the Star Squad (Squad 451, nice little nod to Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451), a group of soldiers in spiffy black uniforms sent into combat. In addition to participating in actual battles, their purpose is to look brave and heroic in front of the cameras so that their actions can be broadcast nationwide and serve as inspiration for the rebellion. They’re basically propaganda tools, and here you can see Katniss, Gale (Liam Hemsworth), and a few others.

The Hunger Games
The Hunger GamesStar Squad is one of the many tools used by President Alma Coin (Julianne Moore), the leader of District 13, who may not always have Katniss’ best interests in mind. After all, you can’t be a martyr to the cause if you’re still alive.

The Hunger GamesThere’s also a shot of Moore chatting with director Francis Lawrence on the Mockingjay set.

The Hunger GamesDonald Sutherland’s President Snow, the leader of the oppressive, heavy handed forces in the Capital, is a creepy, evil bastard. If you didn’t know that already, just looking at that dour, glowering face in this photo is enough to convince you of that.

The Hunger GamesWe’ve also got our best look yet at Egeria (Homeland’s Sarita Choudhury), one of Snow’s aids and the head of the Capital Ministry of Information, which collects and analyses information and sounds like some serious cloak and dagger stuff.

The Hunger GamesAnd Katniss isn’t the only one dealing with some heavy psychological issues. Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin) is even deeper, and is, at times, almost catatonic. Wandering around in the dark in a sweater, it does appear that he’s seen better days.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1 opens everywhere on November 21, and Part 2 follows a year later on November 20, 2015.
