The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Finds Strength And Courage In This TV Spot

Another day, another piece of promotion for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1. Over the weekend we saw a clip introducing some of the new faces, but this new TV spot returns the focus to heroine Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) with an emphasis on how hard it can be to be her friend.
It’s easy to be brave and strong and stand up for what’s right when it’s just you who has to pay the price, but when your friends and family, the people you care about, get caught in the crossfire, things get a little more dicey. That’s the main point of this video, and is one of the key strategies that President Snow (Donald Sutherlan), despotic leader of Panem, plans to use against Katniss. He’s going to tear down everything she holds dear in this world and try to push her to her breaking point.
High action and big, spectacle style set pieces are the order of the day for this quick hitter of a video. There’s a lot of running and shooting and various things exploding or collapsing. We know that much of the plot of Mockingjay, the final chapter in Suzanne Collins’ young adult trilogy of novels, features a fair number of battle scenes, and they’re not skimping when it comes to showing them onscreen. When your franchise has earned more than $1 billion, you can go crazy when it comes to staging this sort of thing.
After being rescued from the Hunger Games arena at the end of Catching Fire, the first sequel, Katniss finds herself in District 13, which was heretofore thought to be destroyed. But it’s not, and it has become the seat of the revolution brewing across Panem, partially ignited by Katniss and Peeta’s (Josh Hutcherson) performance in the first Hunger Games. Because of her standing, she becomes the de facto face of the rebellion, a symbol of hope and resistance, and President Coin (Julianne Moore), uses her as propaganda tool, more concerned about her own ends than with Katniss. Part of this involves going into battle with a camera crew capturing her every move, which is then edited and broadcast across the airwaves, but when she finds out that Peeta is still alive, a prisoner of the Capital and being used for similar publicity purposes, she sets out on a quest to rescue him.
Directed by Francis Lawrence, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1 also stars Liam Hemsworth, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Jeffrey Wright, Sam Claflin, Stanley Tucci, Jena Malone, Natalie Dormer, Evan Ross, Wes Chatham, Elden Henson, and Mahershala Ali. It opens everywhere November 21, while Part 2 follows a year later on November 20, 2015.
