Almost Human’s Final Extended Trailer And New Fake News Promos

This Sunday we’ll finally get to watch the long awaited series premiere of Almost Human on Fox. The follow up series of Fringe producers J.J. Abrams and J.H. Wyman was delayed for a few weeks so the broadcast network could position the science fiction cop drama for a bigger viewing audience now following Fox’s Sunday Night Football Doubleheader. Fox recently released Almost Human’s last trailer before its series premiere, which could be watched above.
The new trailer is more cinematic than the previous teaser released by Fox. It even starts off with the Bad Robot production logo bumper to give the trailer a more movie-like look and feel. We get the basic info on the series’ premise, an injured cop takes on a new synthetic partner in the future, but now we also get a look at the unlikely pair’s first assignment and mission together. The new trailer also makes Almost Human’s premiere episode look like a futuristic version of director Michael Mann’s 1995 film Heat, with masked criminals using an armored car as a battering ram, mixed in with the future landscape of Blade Runner.
In a bit of fun with the series’ future setting, Fox also released three new “fake news” promos to get people talking about Almost Human. The new promos even feature a real news reporter with Houston/Fox 26’s Rita Garcia (formerly of Los Angeles’ KCAL) reading the fake headlines that center around the series in the year 2048. These new promos are actually really fun and clever, and worth a watch. Check them out below:
The first promo features the recent news that LAPD officers now have new synthetic android partners that are more logic based than the previous models that were “almost human.” It ends with a clever use of a Twitter hashtag #BotorNot. It’s good to see that Twitter will still be part of our lives in the year 2048.
The next promo showcases the new laws that require human cops to partner with new androids. The reasoning behind the new law is finally revealed citing that human casualties diminished with androids on the beat. It seems like Almost Human is taking a few cues from RoboCop.
The last promo highlights that the last of the DRN (or Dorian) android units have been taken off the streets of Los Angeles. The DRN units were the more human-like androids that have been malfunctioning due to its synthetic soul software.
The new sci-fi cop series takes place in the year 2048, when police officers are forced to partner up with androids. Almost Human follows John Kennex, a respected LAPD police officer who, after a failed assignment that cost the lives of his fellow police officers, is left injured and emotionally distant from his family and friends. Although Kennex has an aversion to androids, he is nevertheless paired with Dorian, a humanoid robot with unexpected emotional responses.
Almost Human features Karl Urban, Michael Ealy, Lili Taylor, Mackenzie Crook, Michael Irby, Minka Kelly, and John Larroquette. The first hour of its series premiere will air on Sunday, November 17th, while its concluding hour will air the next day on Monday, November 18th on Fox. The series regular timeslot is on Monday nights before the genre hit TV series Sleepy Hollow.
