JohnLAlthough Fox delayed Almost Human‘s series premiere, the network’s intentions for the delay were to ensure the biggest possible audience for the science fiction series. Fox wants Almost Human to join its other successful new genre series, Sleepy Hollow, on Monday nights. Recently, the futuristic TV series added a new cast member to give the show some added zip and personality: none other than Night Court veteran John Larroquette.

According to THR, actor John Larroquette will join the cast of Almost Human. He will play the new character of Nigel, a genius roboticist who is described as “sympathetic, highly intelligent and a bit broken.” The addition of Larroquette to the cast should be tremendous! He’s one of the best character actors around, so he should lend the series some levity and weight.

Larroquette is best known for playing prosecutor Dan Fielding on NBC’s Night Court in the ’80s and ’90s. He won an Emmy Award for his performance as the narcissistic, sex-obsessed prosecutor. He would later appear on shows such as The Practice, Boston Legal, and The John Larroquette Show. Larroquette found a new career on Broadway in the revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, opposite Daniel Radcliffe. He also won a Tony Award for his performance in the Broadway show.

Fox has also released a new character profile video focusing on the TV show’s dorky lab genius Rudy Lom, played by Mackenzie Crook (best known from the BBC’s The Office and Pirates of the Caribbean). Rudy Lom is the man who creates androids for the LAPD in the year 2048. It appears that Crook’s character is socially inept and immerses himself in technology. It feels like we’ll never see this character outside of the lab, and he will also provide the series with comic relief. According to Crook, Rudy Lom is “the brains behind the operation” and he “doesn’t really have to deal with this crazy world that’s going on outside of his four walls.”

Fox also released eight minutes of Almost Human on Hulu.com. The eight minutes features John Kennex (Karl Urban) getting back to work after the accident that shook his police career. He reports to Captain Maldonado, who assigns him a new synthetic partner. After Kennex disposes his new partner, he then reports to Rudy Lom for a new one. In the final moments of the extended clip, Kennex is partnered up with the android named Dorian.

The eight minutes of Almost Human look really good! Karl Urban is just wonderful playing no-nonsense characters with a deadpan demeanor. It feels as if John Kennex could eventually turn into Judge Dredd, if he stays on the job long enough.

The sci-fi cop drama is set in the year 2048, at a time when police officers are required to partner with androids. Almost Human follows John Kennex, a respected LAPD police officer who, after a failed assignment that cost the lives of nine of his fellow police officers, is left injured and emotionally distant. Although Kennex has disdain for all synthetics, he is nevertheless paired with Dorian, an android with unexpected emotional responses.

Almost Human features Karl Urban, Michael Ealy, Lili Taylor, Mackenzie Crook, Michael Irby, Minka Kelly, and John Larroquette. The first hour of its series premiere will air on Sunday, November 17, while its concluding hour will air the next day on Monday, November 18, on Fox.

Almost Human‘s‘s regular timeslot will be on Monday nights, paired with Sleepy Hollow after its series premiere episode airs.
