Guardians of the GalaxyMarvel has never been particularly shy about promoting their various cinematic endeavors, but it feels like the push for their upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy has been more ubiquitous than most. You can barely surf the Internet for more than a few minutes without coming across some new poster, TV spot, or trailer. Not that we’re complaining, because up to this point, it’s all looked fantastic. The reason probably has to do with the fact that this isn’t one of the comic giant’s better-known titles, especially among general movie audiences. Much of what we’ve seen has served as a de facto introduction to the team of deep space outlaws. Well they’re back at it, dropping a new collection of stills from the film.

Most of these images are going to appear familiar to those of you who have been keeping up with the hype machine. All of are taken from scenes that appear in recent bits of footage that have come out, and there are screenshots of almost all of these floating around. These are, however, much higher resolution than most of those, so you get a crisp, clean view of the action.

Led by Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord, a half-human intergalactic bandit, the team of mismatched criminals and goons must come together in order to save the day for 12 billion residents of the galaxy. As you can guess from that description, there’s going to be a fair amount of action, like Star-Lord’s running leap, aided by those handy dandy rocket shoe things.

Guardians of the GalaxyThe more we see about Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), the more we want to reach out and pet him. We won’t, we want our hands to remain intact, but he just looks so soft and fluffy. And this doesn’t mean we won’t think about it from time to time.

Guardians of the GalaxyWe don’t, however, want to get too close to Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista). He looks plenty pissed off in this picture, and is about to cause quite a ruckus.

Guardians of the GalaxyRocket’s best friend and partner in crime is the eight-foot-tall alien tree named Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), who only says one thing, “I am Groot.” Looking at this picture, you can’t help but think of Frankenstein’s Monster encountering that little girl in the old Universal classic.

Zoe Saldana’s green-skinned assassin Gamora rounds out the core gang, but apparently she doesn’t get her own picture in this collection.

Guardians of the GalaxyThe Guardians will have to face off against the mighty Kree Empire, and Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace). We don’t know much about him, but he definitely has an excellent crazy face, as you can see here.

Guardians of the GalaxyBecause this takes place in deep space, there are two stunning shots of that environment, a new wrinkle added into the ever-expanding horizons of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Guardians of the GalaxyDirected by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy also stars Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly, and Glenn Close, and opens everywhere August 1.
