There hasn’t been an official trailer or fleshed-out plot description released yet for Ridley Scott’s new film Prometheus, but all of the little teasers are extremely intriguing. Remember how exciting it was when those first images from the film made it to the internet last week? Space! A giant head! Blonde Fassbender! Maybe some xenomorph eggs! But the images were less than stellar quality, seeing as they were just scans from an Entertainment Weekly spread. Luckily, 20th Century Fox has now released the actual images – and in high res!
The image with the giant head now looks less like it contains a field of xenomorph eggs (at least as they’ve appeared before) than it did in the scanned images. They look more like metallic canisters than any kind of living creature, but I suppose the thing they’re examining in the next photo down could either be stone or an egg. The whole ambiance the images give off seems pretty consistent with the original Alien trilogy, though.
Prometheus stars Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Patrick Wilson, Logan Marshall-Green, Guy Pearce, Sean Harris, and Katie Dickie. According to the (thin) official plot description, it will follow space explorers who “discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.” Scott has suggested that the story is an allegory for the mythical tale of Prometheus and that it will contain some “Alien DNA”.
Hopefully, the next official drop will be a trailer so we can see these new pods and gorgeous set pieces in action and get a little more information on exactly how Prometheus ties into the larger Alien mythology.
