2014 is going to start with a bang with Syfy’s new science fiction TV series Helix. The newest show from writer/producer Ronald D. Moore will examine the boundaries of science and the perils of playing god. While the series doesn’t premiere until January 10, Syfy has released some haunting new viral videos hinting at the series’ central mysteries.

The first video is in Japanese without English subtitles, so I’m not sure what to make of it. One of the main characters on Helix is Japanese scientist Dr. Hiroshi Hitaki, the head of Arctic Biosystems, the backers of Helix‘s mysterious Arctic research center. While I don’t understand Japanese, the video is chilling. Not just its snowy landscape, but also the idea of dying a horrible death in the middle of nowhere.

The second video is a sort of training video. Apparently, when people at Arctic Biosystems are stressed, they meditate and do yoga to relax. However, even a yoga class isn’t safe from Arctic Biosystems’ secrets. It seems one of the reasons why Arctic Biosystems exists is for the further advancement and progress of mankind. The above video looks more like the brainwashing room in Lost (“Room 23”) than a meditation center.

The last video is made up of final interviews from Arctic Biosystems’ potential new employees. The company hires the best of the best, so it would no doubt be a very hard interview process to get the job. The video features Dr. Van Eigem, a young scientist looking to join the ranks of Arctic Biosystems, who pleads with Dr. Hiroshi Hitaki to hire her. The video also includes Dr. Bryce, a research doctor looking to join Arctic Biosystems. It’s unclear if these characters will eventually join the series or if it’s just a bit of viral-video fun.

Syfy recently released inside-look videos showcasing interviews with the cast and crew of Helix. The behind-the-scene trailers also take a look at the deadly virus we’ve been watching kill Helix‘s characters in almost every piece of promotional material. Syfy also released some images from Helix‘s pilot episode.

Helix follows a group of CDC scientists stationed at a secret lab in a remote area of the Arctic. Assigned to investigate a possible global outbreak, they soon discover something terrifying beneath the icy surface. Helix stars Billy Campbell, who plays Dr. Alan Farragut, leader of the Center for Disease Control outbreak field team, as well as Kyra Zagorsky, Mark Ghanimé, Jordan Hayes, Meegwun Fairbrother, Catherine Lemieux, and Neil Napier. Jeri Ryan will also appear on the series in a reoccurring role, but not a series regular. Bummer.

Helix will debut on Friday, January 10, 2014 on Syfy at 10/9c, in a two-hour premiere event.
