our interplanetary Clint EastwoodMarvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is a big movie. Not only does it feature five main characters — Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot — it also features tons of supporting characters and villains such as Yondu Udonta, Rhomann Dey, Nova Prime Rael, Ronan the Accuser, Korath the Pursuer, and the Collector. Space pirate Nebula was introduced in the most recent trailer, but now we’ve got another good look at her, played in the film by Doctor Who‘s Karen Gillan.

Director James Gunn posted a closer look at the blue-skinned villain on his Instagram account. Gunn uses his Instagram to post new images and details from the film from time to time, so he’s worth following if you’re interested in Guardians. The director describes Nebula as “our interplanetary Clint Eastwood.” I’m not sure if he means Clint Eastwood as The Man With No Name or Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry. I highly doubt that he means Clint Eastwood as Robert Kincaid from The Bridges of Madison County.

We saw two quick shots of Nebula in the film’s first trailer: one of her holding a blade to someone’s throat and the other facing off against her nemesis Gamora (Zoe Saldana), but this is the first one where we get to see the detail in Karen Gillan’s makeup work. Nebula is a ruthless pirate and part of The Graces, an army of female warriors led by Gamora. It’s unclear how Gamora and Nebula will wind up at each other’s throats, but it certainly looks like a big highlight of the new movie.

Marvel recently released new concept art for Guardians featuring Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon in a marketplace that’s reminiscent of Mos Eisley from Star Wars.

Guardians of the Galaxy follows Peter Jason Quill (Chris Pratt), a half-human/half-alien who is at the center of a galaxy-wide manhunt after he steals a mysterious orb, believed to be one of the Infinity Gems. Once he’s caught and sent to a space prison, he tries to escape by building an alliance with a group of misfits and outlaws. When the team learns about the orb’s true power, they must work together to keep the galaxy safe from Ronan the Accuser and the evil Kree Empire.

Guardians of the Galaxy stars Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Lee Pace, Benicio del Toro, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Rooker, Olivia Lovibond, John C. Reilly, and Glenn Close. It lands in theaters everywhere on August 1.
