As Marvel continues to cast Guardians of the Galaxy, the cosmic team of peacekeepers is at the center of the comic book movie studio’s “Phase II” plan to expand the Marvel movie universe. The movie is a gamble, but Marvel hasn’t had a failure yet, so it will be interesting to see how general audiences respond to Guardians of the Galaxy.

In the meantime, Marvel has released limited edition trading cards featuring the Guardians of the Galaxy with Iron Man. The trading cards will coincide with the release of “Guardians of the Galaxy #1” comic book written by Brian Michael Bendis, with art by Steve McNiven. Check out the trading cards and comic book cover below.

It’s interesting that Iron Man is included with these trading cards. Iron Man will play a role in the new comic book series (Iron Man is also on the comic book cover), but it’s also been rumored that he will play a role in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. If true, Star-Lord/Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) would appear in the after-credits tag at the end of Iron Man 3. This would be the best way to introduce the Guardians of the Galaxy to a mainstream audience.

Chris Pratt was recently cast as Star-Lord, the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Game of Thrones actor Jason Momoa is heavily favored to play Drax the Destroyer in the upcoming film, while the rest of the team — Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Gamora — have yet to be cast. Principal photography is expected to start this summer in London, England.

Guardians of the Galaxy #1 will hit newsstands and comic book stores on February 27th, while the Guardians of the Galaxy movie will hit theaters on August 1, 2014, in 3D.
