Casting rumors have been swirling around Guardians of the Galaxy since Marvel Studios announced the film production at San Diego Comic-Con last summer. The next big superhero team will go cosmic in 2014. But as casting starts to get into full swing, shooting and production will start this summer for the would-be blockbuster.

According to ScreenDaily.com, the new Marvel movie is set to begin shooting at Shepperton Studios of the Pinewood Group in the United Kingdom this summer. Although casting is still ongoing, director James Gunn is eager to get the film started so it can make its August 2014 release date.

There have been numerous reports of who will play the lead role of Star-Lord/Peter Quill. It seems like every male actor in his late 20s or early 30s has auditioned to play the leader of the Guardians, including Lee Pace, Michael Rosenbaum, Jim Sturgess, and Zachary Levi .

Casting for the role Drax The Destroyer/Arthur Douglas has also been problematic. Actors Isaiah Mustafa, Brian Patrick Wade, and former WWE Superstar Dave Bautista have all been rumored to be in talks to play Drax, and as of this post, both roles remain open.

The Guardians of the Galaxy are a team of intergalactic protectors, including the Marvel characters Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, and Gamora. They are part of Marvel’s “Phase II” initiative to expand the Marvel movie universe. All of the Marvel Studios movies are expected to come together again in The Avengers 2 in 2015.

Guardians of the Galaxy will hit theaters everywhere on August 1, 2014.
