Guardians Of The Galaxy Shows Off Its Awesome Spaceships

Marvel has been burying fans under a mountain of promotion for their upcoming space adventure Guardians of the Galaxy for the past few months. We’ve seen a nearly endless stream of trailers, posters, and TV spots, but so far almost all of that has focused on introducing potential fans to a new cast of characters. That approach makes sense. This is one of the comic book giants lesser-known titles, at least from a general audience perspective, so you want to generate as much investment and connection as you can right out of the gate. A handful of newly discovered images, however, are more concerned with some of the badass spaceships we’ll see blasting across the depths of space.
Oddly enough, these pictures were discovered on the Amazon page for the deluxe version of the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack, which you can check out here if you’re so inclined. These appear to be pieces of concept art, and represent the vehicles that the hero and villain of the saga will get behind the wheel of in the finished movie.
First up is the Milano. Very sleek and futuristic looking, this is the craft piloted by Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord. Also known as Peter Jason Quill, he is the leader of the title crew, which also includes the green-skinned assassin, Gamora (Zoe Saldana); a big blue maniac, Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista); an anthropomorphic raccoon named Rocket (Bradley Cooper); and his best friend and partner in crime, Groot (Vin Diesel), an eight-foot-tall alien tree who only says “I am Groot.”
The Milano doesn’t look like the biggest shit in the universe, so you can bet there are going to be some tight squeezes. Considering the prickly temperament of the players involved, these cramped quarters could lead to some flaring tempers and butting of heads. While it may not be big, this vessel definitely looks like it is on the faster side of things.
If you’re looking for size in your spacecraft, look no further than The Dark Aster. This is the main ship of the film’s primary antagonist Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace), and if you’re an intergalactic bad guy bent on ruling with an iron fist, this is certainly an appropriate ship, appearance wise, for you. At approximately a mile wide, it is a big sucker, and also part of a fleet of Necrocraft. Of course the villain flies around in something called a Necrocraft. Can’t you just imagine pulling up to some unsuspecting world in this bad boy. That dark shape alone, looming in the sky, is probably enough to make many civilizations just give up without a fight.
If there is any justice, these ships will join the likes of the Millennium Falcon, Firefly, USS Enterprise, and so many others, in the pantheon of iconic science fiction space ships.
