Guardians of the GalaxyMarvel’s latest attempt to rule the cinematic world, Guardians of the Galaxy, is set to open less than a month from today and the comic book giant is taking great pains to introduce a wider audience to one of their lesser known titles. Their latest offering is a new collection of stills from the deep space adventure, including a new behind the scenes look.

The story revolves around a mismatched gang of cosmic outlaws made up of the smart ass leader Star-Lord, AKA Peter Jason Quill (Chris Pratt); green-tinged assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana); a hulking blue madman aptly named Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista); an anthropomorphic raccoon, Rocket (Bradley Cooper), with a penchant for heavy arms and grand theft; and an eight-foot-tall, shape-shifting, alien tree, Groot (Vin Diesel), with an extremely limited vocabulary. Together they have to figure out a way to save the 12-billion residents of the galaxy from Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) and the Kree Empire. We may be screwed.

The first photo shows Star-Lord, Gamora, and Drax engaged in some kind of shenanigans. You can tell by that look on the leader’s face that he’s scheming and after something.

Guardians of the GalaxyWhile they’re not exactly either heroes or villains, the Guardians team walks a fine line when it comes to the law, and sometimes they’re bound to find themselves at odds with those who sworn to uphold the rules and regulations. Like Gamora, who is known for killing folks, has probably found herself in handcuffs on more than just this one occasion.

Guardians of the GalaxyAnd just in case you thought it might be a good idea to tangle with someone nicknamed “the Destroyer,” this pic of Drax looking like he’s about to tear someone’s arms off, should make you think twice.

Guardians of the GalaxyStar-Lord and Gamora look to be getting in some quality bonding time in this photo.

Guardians of the GalaxyThis may be the best look yet at Pace’s Ronan, the primary antagonist of the film, and he is terrifying enough to fill the role.

Guardians of the GalaxyRonan also gets to pilot this badass ship named the Dark Astor, which, according to a tweet from director James Gunn, is “many miles wide.”

Guardians of the GalaxyGunn also tweeted out this picture of his brother, Sean, as the character Kraglin, who is the first mate of Yondu (Michael Rooker) in the Ravagers. This still is also reminiscent of the shadowy image of Yondu that came out a little while back.

Guardians of the GalaxyThere’s also another shot of Gunn in action, directing an actor on set.

GuardiansGuardians of the Galaxy opens everywhere on August 1, and also stars Glenn Close, Karen Gillan, John C. Reilly, Benicio Del Toro, and a ton of other famous folks. Word is that Nathan Fillion even has a fun cameo.
