Guardians of the GalaxyWhat can we say about Guardians of the Galaxy that hasn’t been said already? Though we were skeptical of the move when Marvel first announced it—we’re not talking about one of their more widely known titles here—everything that has happened since has done nothing be get us completely stoked. If we had a calendar, we would be marking off the days with a big red X, but August 1 seems like so far away that it would just drive us crazy. Still, we’re glad for every new tidbit of promotion, including this new behind the scenes photo of lead Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord.

We’ve already seen a few looks at Star-Lord, also known as Peter Jason Quill, but this new high-resolution picture from the Studio gives us our best look yet at Pratt with his mask on. From this perspective you get a good view of what the device actually entails. It looks like there is some sort of breathing apparatus, which no doubt comes in handy for an individual that visits a variety of different planets in the galaxy, not all of which have a ready-made, easy to breath atmosphere. There are also those creepy red eyes that probably have all sorts of cool functions like night vision or zoom or x-ray capabilities. Also attributes that probably come in handy in a pinch.

The other day we saw pictures of Star-Lord and his Guardians compatriots Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), anthropomorphic raccoon Rocket (Bradley Cooper), and seven-foot-tall alien tree Groot (Vin Diesel), modeling some stylish prison outfits. After getting caught swiping a mysterious orb that may be one of the Infinity Gems, Star-Lord teams up with this unlikely cadre, kicks off a galaxy wide manhunt, and maybe, just maybe, saves the universe from Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) and the nefarious Kree Empire.

Guardians looks like its going to be a fantastic blend of sarcastic humor and kick ass action, something director James Gunn (Slither) does as well as anyone working. That bit in the trailer where Star-Lord is in jail and flips the bird is damn near perfect and makes me laugh no matter how many times I watch it.

Because everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is connected, and Guardians is no exception. We don’t know exactly how the action will tie into the larger world, but Gunn did confirm that the action will eventually connect to Avengers 3, and that a motion-captured Thanos “The Mad Titan” will be the “head of the snake” as far as villains go.
