DraxNever, Ever Call Drax A Thesaurus
Dave Bautista’s performance as Drax is one of the weirder elements from the movie, and I need to see more before I can really say whether it works. See, in spite of being a big, tatted-up brute, Drax talks like a Game of Thrones extra — lots of flowery language, and everything is very formal. Rocket at one point explains that Drax’s people speak only literally — they don’t use metaphors. So when Quill jokingly calls Drax a “thesaurus,” Drax takes it personally. It’s a conceit that might work or might not, but of everything I saw in the 17 minutes of preview footage, Bautista’s Drax was the one element that didn’t totally win me over. Hopefully that will change in the full film. He is impressive in action, however — a big, blunt object that just tears through anything in his path through sheer physical force.

August 1 Can’t Get Here Soon Enough
Seriously. I’m more excited about the prospect of a franchise of Guardians movies than I have been by any of the MCU stuff since Joss Whedon’s Avengers. I already love these characters, I love the crazy cosmic universe Gunn has put on screen, and I want to keep visiting it for many years to come.
