Guardians of the Galaxy Mos Eisley CantinaAs production gets started on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy feature film, director James Gunn is bringing a lot of interesting elements together to deliver the superhero team-up movie on time. Recently, concept art was discovered featuring the Guardians of the Galaxy and the world they will inhabit in the upcoming movie.

The concept art from Geek Zenith looks great, while the images of the Guardians gathered around a seedy space bar is extremely reminiscent of the Mos Eisley Cantina scene in the original Star Wars. We’ve also learned that the prop sculptor working on Star-Lord’s helmet was the same who created the original Darth Vader helmet. If James Gunn is taking the Star Wars space opera approach with Guardians of the Galaxy, then the film should be a success with general audiences. It also appears that the below concept art features the Guardians of the Galaxy’s “Icarus” spaceship.

Guardians of the Galaxy casting is now underway with the recent news of former WWE wrestler Dave Bautista taking the role of Drax the Destroyer, while Parks & Recreation actor Chris Pratt will play Star-Lord/Peter Quill, the leader of the Guardians. This leaves the roles for Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Gamora still up in the air. Principal photography is slated to begin this summer in London, England.

Guardians of the Galaxy will hit theaters everywhere on August 1, 2014, in 3D. As a bonus, take a look at the concept art for Captain America: The Winter Soldier from the same artist below:
