Beyond Guardians: Four Cosmic Super-Teams We Want To See On The Big Screen

Green Lantern Corps
Assembled by the immortal Guardians (no relation), the Green Lantern Corps are essentially intergalactic space cops who have been patrolling the beat across the universe for millennia. Rather than packing guns, they wield rings powered by their will, which can create constructs of pretty much anything they can think of, from makeshift spacecraft to enormous green boxing gloves well suited for socking bad guys right in the kisser.
Beginning with the introduction of Hal Jordan as the Silver Age Green Lantern in 1959, DC has carved out a rich and detailed mythology for both the individual Lanterns and the Corps as a whole, so there’s plenty of material to draw from. While the 2011 Green Lantern movie was mostly a mess, it still contained glimpses of what good GL movie could look like (and Mark Strong was a great pick for Sinestro, at least in theory). There are multiple human Lanterns to choose from when it comes to picking protagonists, but I’d love to see an unabashed space opera like Guardians of the Galaxy that focuses on the diverse roster of the Corps, and the overwhelming threats they have to face down, such as the robotic Manhunters or the rival Corps based on the other colors of the so-called “emotional spectrum” (it’s a long story).
Rocket-Style Potential Breakout Character: The Corps lineup sometimes reads as if the Green Lantern writers were consuming a cocktail of crazy space drugs, resulting in ring-slinging characters such as a living planet, an anthropomorphized mushroom, and super-intelligent smallpox virus. Still, if DC wants to take Marvel on cute furry animal vs. cute furry animal, they always can break out Ch’p, an alien Green Lantern who is basically a space squirrel. To be honest, though…I’m pretty sure Rocket could take him. Maybe not in a fair fight, but Rocket isn’t stupid enough to get into a fair fight with a Lantern.
