After delving into historical drama and the biopic realm with his Grace of Monaco script—which tells the tale of Hollywood star Grace Kelly’s romance with Prince Rainier III of, you guessed it, Monaco—writer Arash Amel is dipping his toes into sci-fi. Summit Entertainment has picked up his pitch for a time travel drama called The Infinity Principle.

According to Heat Vision, the story for The Infinity Principle deals with a physicist who proves that time travel is indeed possible. This revelation alone is enough to cause the very fabric of the universe to begin to unravel. You can imagine the complications that could arise from such a situation. Basil Iwanyk (Clash of the Titans, Brooklyn’s Finest) and his Thunder Roads Pictures will produce the film.

That’s a vague description, but one that definitely holds a great deal of potential. There’s a lot of room to deal with theoretical, scientific elements inherent in the set up, as well as throw in some high-paced action for good measure. It’ll be interesting to see how this shakes out. Hopefully it skews toward the smart side of things.

While Grace, which stars Nicole Kidman and Tim Roth, doesn’t hit theaters until later this year, just in time for awards season, we’ll get our first glimpse at Amel’s work on the big screen later this month. He penned the action-thriller Erased, formerly titled The Expatriate, which stars Aaron Eckhart (Olympus Has Fallen) and Olga Kurylenko (Oblivion), and hits the On Demand circuit in April.

This actually isn’t his first go-round with the sci-fi genre, either. He’s also worked on the sequel to I Am Legend for Warner Bros. Given all of the projects he has in the works, Amel doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who just has one thing he likes to do.

Flux Capacitor
Maybe The Infinity Principle will use Doc Brown’s Flux Capacitor to travel through time.
