Godzilla Director Gareth Edwards Wants To Hear You Scream

Imagine opening your front door one day and seeing nothing but destruction and chaos just beyond it, the world turned completely upside down by some unseen threat. Before you can say, “I lived through 9/11 and a tornado,” let me finish. You take one step outside, wondering where the sun has gone, and then you see him: Godzilla. What would you do in that moment? That’s the question that Godzilla director Gareth Edwards is asking in the video above. And here’s how you can answer him.

Get together with a friend, or someone who wouldn’t mind capturing your potential meltdown on camera. (So, possibly your worst enemy.) Put your imagination to the test and pretend the world you know has been stomped into non-existence beneath the feet of the King of all Monsters, then let loose with the most emotional reaction you can muster. Would you scream your lungs out, sobbing in fear? Would you laugh maniacally in disbelief? Would you just start peeing on everything in sight? If you said yes to that last one, maybe don’t do that part on the video.

But don’t actually just stand there in the middle of your living room acting as if Godzilla smashed your mailbox. (My magazine subscriptions!) As Edwards advises, go out into your city and find some recognizable landmarks to include in your reaction. The whole point of this is to create a giant supercut video that encompasses Godzilla’s path of wrath as he makes his way across the country, leading up to him tearing the shit out of the Golden Gate Bridge when the film comes out.

Maybe you need a little encouragement to get your mojo in action. That part is easy. All you have to do is watch the pulse-pounding international trailer below and that should take care of it. Just pretend your pet is also involved.

Or maybe this old animated short Godzilla Meets Bambi will do the trick.

When you’re finished making your submission look perfect, go to this website to submit your sighting for a chance to be featured on both the Godzilla Tumblr page and in the supercut video that Legendary (or whatever interns they employ) is putting together. I’m guessing it’s going to be a load of fun. But not, like, as fun as the movie is going to be, because that would be impossible. Find it in theaters and on IMAX on May 16.
