There are a lot of things to love about Star Trek over the years and in its various incarnations. And sure, there are a lot of truly awful Trek moments too. Probably no single Trek episode or film better embodies that duality than Star Trek: The Motion Picture. It’s ambitious and visually stunning, but it’s also got the pacing of a turtle trying to climb uphill on an ice sheet. Thankfully, it also features a gorgeous score composed and conducted by the late Jerry Goldsmith. Now La-La Land Records is releasing a limited-edition three-disc set of Goldsmith’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture soundtrack. It’s a limited run of 10,000, so you’d best jump on it if you want a copy.

The set lists for a retail price of $34.98, and has been “fully restored, remixed and mastered from the first generation multi-track masters by Bruce Botnick, the original album co-producer and Goldsmith’s long time scoring engineer.”

The set is packed full of goodies that should set any Trekker drooling. In addition to the theatrical score for ST:TMP, it also includes earlier, “rejected cues,” various alternate cuts, and bonus material as well:

Among the highlights are a collection of early takes of the “Main Title” (including extensive stage chatter), isolated segments featuring Craig Huxley’s famous “blaster beam” and assorted synthesizer excerpts, the domestic CD debut of Bob James’ disco cover version of Goldsmith’s theme and Shaun Cassidy’s vocal version of the love theme, “A Star Beyond Time.”

Finally, here’s the full track listing for the set, and you can place your order right here. I can hear that theme already…
