ScullyNo matter what she does in her career, for many of us, Gillian Anderson will always and forever be skeptical FBI Special Agent Dana Scully from The X-Files, but that doesn’t mean she’s not looking to branch out, at least partially. She’s appeared in tons of other projects—notable recent roles include NBC’s Hannibal—and even wrote a science fiction novel, which only makes us love her more. Recently, she made it known that she would very much like to participate in the upcoming female-fronted Ghostbusters reboot. And beyond that, she teased a possible return to her most famous character.

Doing a Reddit AMA to promote her new book, A Vision of Fire, someone asked Anderson if she had any interest in donning one of those iconic beige jumpsuits, strapping on a proton pack, and busting some rogue spirits. Her response was enthusiastic to say the least, as she wrote, “OH MY GOD, I just looked it up online. Paul Feig, cast me now! Start a Twitter petition! I’m free!!!!! I’m free I’m free and I’m funny, goddamnit! MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!”

That’s a lot of exclamation points, lets hope that she doesn’t use that many in her book. While now we know that Feig is in fact going to helm a reboot of the beloved franchise, with a female group of Ghostbusters (despite what Ernie Hudson thinks), we are obviously going to have some discussions about casting. I’m not a big believer in the idea that Ghostbusters needs are reboot, I’d prefer they leave well enough alone, but if this is going to happen, this is a better way than any of the other ideas that have been floating around for years. And what the hell, Anderson would be awesome—for some reason I picture her in the Egon role. Since this is happening and we don’t appear to be able to do anything to stop it, they might as well cast people we like and actually want to see on screen.

A third X-Files movie has also been the source of much speculation over the years. I do, admittedly, love much of the show, but there are also some weak points that just don’t do it for me, and while the first movie is good, the second doesn’t measure up. Creator Chris Carter, as well as both the stars—Anderson and David Duchovny—have all said they’re interested, and there is supposedly an idea for a script that involves alien colonization.

x-files fight the futureWhen this subject came up, as it probably does for Anderson on a regular basis, and someone asked if she knew anything about a possible X-Files 3, she replied, “Uh….uh… uh… Sorta kinda. Keep your ears to the ground.”

While that obviously doesn’t say anything, it does sound like there have at least been discussions on the matter and that something could happen on that front. And possibly soon, from the sound of things. We’ll just have to wait and see.
