Fringe may be dead and gone and buried in the ground, but that’s doesn’t mean you can’t visit the cemetery and put flowers on the grave from time to time. The fifth and final season just wrapped up a little more than a week ago, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has already set a date for the Blu-ray and DVD release. On May 7th, you’ll be able to get your grubby little mitts on Fringe: The Complete Fifth and Final Season and cry yourself silly watching it on repeat.

While not unheard of, this is still a pretty quick turnaround. You can bet that the folks at Warners have been working on putting this together for a while. Despite a lot of fan love, Fringe never posted huge ratings numbers—especially once it was moved to a Friday-night timeslot—but it does a brisk business on the home video market, where fans can marathon the sci-fi procedural.

Season five of Fringe takes place in the year 2036, which has become an Orwellian dystopia. Those pasty, bald time travelers, The Observers, have come back from even further in the future, where they’ve rendered the planet uninhabitable, and taken over. Freed from being trapped in amber, the Fringe team—Olivia (Anna Torv), Peter (Joshua Jackson), Walter (John Noble), and Astrid (Jasika Nicole), along with Henrietta (Georgina Haig), Peter and Olivia’s long-lost daughter—have to execute a secret plan to save humanity. They’re faced with tough choices, emotional battles, and unimaginable hardships along the way.

Showrunner J.H. Wyman has this to say about the impending release:

We’re extremely excited that the fifth and final season of Fringe will be out very soon this coming spring. From our cast and crew, to all of our friends in the press and especially to the fans, we could not be more grateful for this incredible experience. We hope this DVD set gives an even closer look at the amazing adventure we had these past five seasons.

In addition to the 13 episodes of season five, this collection comes with a “Farewell to Fringe” featurette; the panel from San Diego Comic-Con 2012, where the cast and crew talk in depth about the show; a gag reel; and various commentary tracks.

Fringe: The Complete Fifth and Final Season hits shelves May 7th, and will retail for $39.98 on DVD and $49.99 for Blu-ray. The same day, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is also releasing Fringe: The Complete Series. So there’s that to consider if you’ve been holding off on collecting the individual seasons. Both are now available for pre-order.
