The countdown to the fifth and final season of FOX’s mind-bending police procedural Fringe has begun. While the finale will be a sad farewell for long-time fans, at least we get the opportunity for some closure instead of just having the cancellation boom dropped on us in the middle of the off season.
A handful of new cast photos have surfaced, and even though there is nothing new or super exciting revealed in these pictures, it’s nice to see some familiar faces.
Season five of Fringe will see a change drastic of venue. Much of the action is set to take place in the future, in the year 2036, a world first visited by the show in the season four episode “Letters of Transit.” In this bleak rendition of the future the Observers—who it turns out are from even farther in the future, where they’ve rendered the Earth uninhabitable—have taken over, establishing a gloomy, Orwellian dystopia. The Fringe team finds themselves, through various means, transported to this future, and waging war against the totalitarian regime.
Check out these photos for yourself. All of your favorite key players are here, including Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv), Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson), Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble), Nina Sharp (Blair Brown), Phillip Broyles (Lance Reddick), and Astrid Farnsworth (Jasika Nicole).
The show is filming now in Vancouver, BC right now. Season five of Fringe kicks off on September 28th, with the premiere episode titled “Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11,” whatever the hell that means. Whatever it is, it should be fun to find out.
