There’s been a lot of talk about how the upcoming Star Wars Rebels animated series will both help launch the new Star Wars Expanded Universe and set up threads that may play a major role in Episode VII. There have been hints that the core group of Rebels’ Rebels may turn up in the forthcoming Star Wars live-action films, and even rumors that Mara Jade, a fan-beloved part of the old, now non-canon EU continuity may be introduced in Rebels before showing up in the new Episodes. Now a new French teaser for Rebels has given us our first look at the appearance of a classic Star Wars figure in the series: the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi.

We reported about Kenobi’s alleged involvement in Rebels — however big or small that involvement may be — last month, after a Rebels tie-in action figure for the character was spotted at a Hasbro sneak preview event. (You can see the toy design below.) Making Star Wars and other sites then confirmed Obi-Wan would be making at least a cameo in the Rebels pilot, where he would be voiced by James Arnold Taylor — who also voiced the role in the Clone Wars animated series.

The leaked French Rebels trailer includes a lot of familiar footage, but Obi-Wan puts in his appearance right at the 0:08 mark, where he says, “Que la force soit avec toi.” That translates to “May the Force be with you,” if your French is rusty (or nonexistent, in my case).

Of course, even with confirmation that Obi-Wan will show up in Rebels, we’re still left with a lot of questions. We know he’ll show up in holographic form, but is he actually speaking directly to the Rebels characters or are they just watching something pre-recorded? It could just be the thing he recorded in Episode III, warning all surviving Jedi to stay the hell away from Coruscant. Even if that’s all it is, that still doesn’t rule out the possibility of Obi-Wan having a larger role in Rebels. We know he’s supposed to be in hiding on Tatooine during this pre-A New Hope era, but it’s not outside the realm of possibility that he might have been working covertly to help the forming Rebellion where he could.

Set between Episode III and IV, Rebels follows the earliest days of the Rebellion against the Empire, and it’s executive produced by Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Greg Weisman (Young Justice), and Clone Wars vet Dave Filoni. It will premiere this fall as a one-hour special on the Disney Channel, then the bulk of the series will switch over to Disney XD.

Star Wars Rebels continues the epic tradition of the legendary Star Wars saga with all-new exciting, action-packed adventures. It is a dark time in the galaxy, as the evil Galactic Empire tightens its grip of power from world to world. As the series begins, Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet, ruling with an iron fist and ruining the lives of its people.

But there are a select few who are brave enough to stand up against the endless Stormtroopers and TIE fighters of the Empire: the clever and motley crew of the starship ‘Ghost.’ Together, this ragtag group will face threatening new villains, have thrilling adventures, and become heroes..
