Since the unfair cancellation of Firefly Nathan Fillion has gone on to find success as a formulaic crime-solver on ABC’s Castle. I guess we should all be happy that a deserving talent has finally found steady work, but it’s hard not to be a little bitter that he could only find it by starring in such a clearly inferior product. It’s not that Castle is bad, exactly, it’s just that it’s not Firefly or Dr. Horrible.
I suspect that, though he’d never admit it, somewhere deep down Fillion feels the same way too. He’s been known to work the occasional Firefly reference in to Castle. Like the time he suddenly put on his old Captain Mal Reynolds costume…
Now Fillion’s staging a Firefly reunion on Castle. Former Serenity shipmate Adam Baldwin is set to appear on the show according to TV Guide. Baldwin played Jayne Cobb on Firefly and in the subsequent Serenity movie. On Castle he’ll play a detective named Ethan Slaughter. I can’t think of a more appropriate moniker for an Adam Baldwin character.
The episode, set to air this spring, will have Baldwin’s Slaughter character showing Fillion’s Castle the dirtier side of the police force in the city’s gang unit.
