With only four months until it’s released, Elysium is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated sci-fi films of the year. Considering that there are so many fantastic science fiction offerings coming out in 2013, it’s hard to stand out in such a heavy genre year. But Neill Blomkamp’s follow-up to his directorial debut, District 9, will surely be one of the better ones. The new Elysium poster also looks like it’s borrowing some influences from Blomkamp’s previous film.

The new poster shows the film’s protagonist, Max (Matt Damon), wearing a futuristic, mechanical exoskeleton. We’ve seen plenty of images of Max from his front and side, but this is the first time we’ve seen what the back of his exoskeleton will look like. It’s pretty badass, and it’s almost reminiscent of Wikus van de Merwe’s (Sharlto Copley) mech suit at the end of District 9.

The most interesting thing about the poster is the film’s official website, ItsBetterUpThere.com. This is a direct reference to the space station Elysium, where the film’s most wealthy reside, while the poor toil on the ruined and overpopulated Earth below.

Elysium will follow Max, a man on a mission to the orbiting space station to find a cure for his recently acquired cancer. A bounty hunter named Kruger (Sharlto Copley) is hunting Max to make sure that doesn’t happen. Kruger was sent by Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hardline government official who will stop at nothing to keep the peace on the space station for all of its very wealthy residents. Max is the world’s only hope for equality.

Elysium will hit theaters everywhere on August 9th. Check out Wikus’ mech suit from District 9 below:
