One of the most anticipated films of 2013 is Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium. The film was originally supposed to come out last month in March, but Sony decided they had a big hit on their hands so they moved the film’s release date to this August. Blomkamp’s Elysium is bound to be as thrilling and thought provoking as his directorial debut film District 9. With only four months until its release, Sony released two images from the upcoming sci-fi movie.
You saw the first one above, here’s the other…
The images depict Max (Matt Damon) in his hydraulic exoskeleton and a mysterious woman (Alice Braga) carrying a child on – what is believed to be – the space station Elysium; both images look great as they blend clean with gritty sci-fi. A few months ago, Sony released another set of images of both Max and one of the film’s villains Kruger (Sharlto Copley). Jodie Foster also released a few images of her character Secretary Rhodes.
The movie Elysium takes place in the distant future where the very wealthy live on an orbiting space station called Elysium, while the very poor are left to toil on the Earth, which is now a vast and overpopulated wasteland. Max is a cancer patient living on Earth who reluctantly goes on a mission to save his life on the space station, during that time Secretary Rhodes is a hard-lined government official who will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the way of life on Elysium. She sends a bounty hunter named Kruger to track down and stop Max from entering the luxurious space station.
Neil Blomkamp’s Elysium will hit theaters everywhere on August 9th.
