edge of tomorrowWhat’s So Bad About Groundhog Day With Aliens?

If you peruse Internet comment sections, both here on GFR and abroad, you’ll find a lot of complaints about Edge of Tomorrow being a rip off of Harold Ramis’ Groundhog Day. Cruise’s character, Bill Cage, becomes caught in a constant time loop that starts over each time he dies. Beyond the obvious differences in plot and character motivation—I don’t recall the scene where Bill Murray trains for war while wearing a weaponized exoskeleton—I don’t see a problem with this plot device being used in the first place. Groundhog Day is considered by many to be a perfect comedy, and the concept of reliving a time period is one of the few that hasn’t been completely done to death in Hollywood, yet. So if you’re whining about already having seen one aspect of this plot in one great movie and maybe two okay movies, suck it up and go buy a ticket, or I’ll be back to haunt you day after day after day.
