With the release of Oblivion and After Earth, there are two post-apocalyptic sci-fi movies coming out this year. Now the second trailer for After Earth, starring Will and Jaden Smith, has arrived to give us a better look at what to expect. The latest film from director M. Night Shyamalan could be one of the biggest movies of the summer season…or it could be another strike against Shyamalan’s once-promising career. The trailer looks exciting, and it captures the father/son relationship aspects the film will surely center around. Check it out:

While After Earth’s first trailer was intriguing, its second trailer is heart-stopping and thrilling. After cataclysmic events, humanity has left Earth behind for a more sustainable planet called Nova Prime. A thousand years later, a military recruit named Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) crash-lands on Earth after a horrendous collision with an asteroid. Also along for the ride is his father, army General Cypher Raige (Will Smith). Abandoned and isolated on the uncharted terrain, Kitai and Cypher must work together to survive a world inhabited by dangerous plant and animal life that has evolved in humanity’s absence.

Yesterday, Sony released a poster for After Earth along with a mysterious tweet teasing the arrival of the new trailer. Anticipation is high for the new film, but Sony is probably smart not to put M. Night Shyamalan’s name on After Earth’s trailer or any of its promotional materials. At this point in his career, Shyamalan’s name is synonymous with a terrible movie-going experience. Maybe he’ll redeem himself with After Earth.

After Earth will hit theaters everywhere on June 7th.
