There are a lot of skills that would come in handy during a zombie apocalypse. Survival skills so you can live off the land and make do when food and water is scarce. Knowledge of weapons both traditional and improvised, so you can fend off the undead. A flexible morality, so you can make the hard choices when it means life or death. And then there’s free-running.

Okay, “free-running” probably isn’t the first thing that springs to mind for most people when the subject of the walking dead comes up, but given how popular “fast zombies” are these days, it could definitely come in handy. That’s the premise behind Dying Light, a new zombie survival game that’s coming to the next-gen consoles Xbox One and PlayStation 4, as well as PC. Based on the cinematic trailer above, it looks to be a mix of the open world and improvised weaponry of Dead Rising or Dead Island, mixed with the free-running of Mirror’s Edge or the Assassin’s Creed games. (It comes by the Dead Island comparisons naturally, since it’s from the same developer, Techland.)

There are a lot of zombie games out there, so trying to find some new angle on the genre is always a tricky task. Techland surprised a lot of people with the success of Dead Island, so we’ll have to wait and see if they can make lightning strike again. In the meantime, you can find out more about the project at Dying Light’s Facebook page and official website.
