The upcoming Dredd had an uphill climb in front of it. It’s based on a property that not that many people outside of die-hard geeks have ever heard of, much less are familiar with. On top of that, there was the lingering memory of the godawful Sylvester Stallone version, which most people have worked hard to forget. Could Dredd pull it off? Could it actually be awesome, and scrape away any lingering scar tissue left behind by Sly Stallone and Rob Schneider? Well, I dunno yet, but I do know that this poster is pretty badass.
The poster looks good, the trailers look promising, and the cast is solid across the board, with Karl Urban donning the helmet (which he apparently never takes off; you’re welcome, Dredd fans) and Game of Thrones‘ Lena Headey as Ma-Ma, a lady whose name you should not mock unless you want to be thrown off a skyscraper. Despite my overall distaste for remakes, this is the exactly sort of property that is ripe for a return visit. From the look of things, they may just have made the Dredd movie that Dredd fans have been waiting for. We’ll know more when Dredd opens in theaters on September 21st.
