Here’s the thing about scoring a role on BBC’s venerable sci-fi adventure, Doctor Who: you know going in that your part has a shelf life. Whether you’re tapped to play the Time Lord himself, or one of his numerous companions, the run will be somewhat limited. Sorry. Sure, you’ll be known forever for your connection to the show, so you’ll always have a seat at any convention you ever want to attend, but the role itself will always come to an end.

Now that the Doctor has a new companion to kick around time and space with, in the form of Jenna-Louise Coleman’s Clara Oswin Oswald, the question arises: how long will she be sticking around?

The short answer is that she’ll be a part of our lives for quite some time. That doesn’t mean we have any clearer sense of who she is, but we will apparently have the time to find out. Talking to The Evening Standard, the 26-year-old actress confirmed that we’ll be seeing her well into 2014. According to the report, “multiple Clara Oswin Oswalds have been confirmed for the 2013 Christmas special and series eight.”

Coleman will get at least a three-month break from shooting Doctor Who when Matt Smith, the eleventh Doctor, hops the pond in order to appear in Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, How to Catch a Monster.

What’s more, Coleman also mentioned that she’s going to appear at San Diego Comic-Con in 2013, if you’re interested in that sort of thing.
