The Doctor Explores Time And Space…In Puppet Form

There are certain TV stunts that tend to recur in many a long-running show. Two of the most obvious examples are the musical episode, perhaps most famously done by Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘s “Once More with Feeling,” and the live episode, which has been done by everybody from 30 Rock to The West Wing. One episode variant that hasn’t caught on yet? The Angel episode “Smile Time,” which saw the title character turned into, well, a puppet. I think this is a concept that demands more widespread application, and it seems that a Tumblr user named Alisa might agree with me, since she’s been documenting the continuing adventures of Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith…in puppet form.

While some might think that Alisa is just a clever photographer who has hit upon a unique way to make a name for herself, her Tumblr, The Doctor Puppet, explains that she is actually one of The Doctor’s many companions. It hasn’t yet been explained exactly how or when The Doctor was transformed into a puppet, and I’m sure Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat’s lips are sealed. Regardless of what cosmic kerfuffle has transformed The Doctor into felt form, Alisa is faithfully recording his adventures, which seem to involve a lot less saving of the universe and a lot more puttering around New York City. Still, even a Time Lord deserves a vacation every now and then, am I right?
