Everyone loves a zombie! Doc of the Dead is a new documentary that examines our culture’s love affair with zombies, and there’s a new teaser trailer that has more blood and gore than your average episode of The Walking Dead.

From the creators and filmmakers of the documentary The People vs. George Lucas, Doc of the Dead boasts that it’s the definitive documentary of zombie culture. The film was produced by the folks of Red Light Media and the geek-centric website GeekScape.net.

The filmmakers crowd-sourced and funded the documentary with Kickstarter.com. It will feature interviews and oral accounts from fans, filmmakers, celebrities, and YouTubers, including director Alex Cox, actor Simon Pegg, and zombie icon George A. Romero. Although the documentary will not be released until sometime in 2014, Doc of the Dead looks like a flesh-eating good time.

The documentary will explore why zombies and pop culture were meant to be together. Since the rise of geek culture, zombies have engulfed the media landscape thanks to TV shows like The Walking Dead and movies like World War Z and Warm Bodies. What is the appeal of zombies and why are we so fascinated with the idea of life after death?

Red Light Media found online success and celebrity with their hour-long breakdowns of the Star Wars prequel trilogy. They examined each film and explained in great detail why they were bad movies, and why George Lucas was way in over his head in making them, in a snarky and hilarious manner.

Doc of the Dead will be released sometime in 2014, but you can go to their official website and submit your own videos and stories. Who knows, you might actually make it into the final film.
