Disney Confirms Standalone Star Wars Movies Are In The Works
But whose stories will they be?

It’s official! A few months ago, when Disney acquired Lucasfilm for $4 billion, the House of House announced that they would be making a new Star Wars, beginning with Episode VII nor earlier than 2015. trilogy starting with Star Wars: Episode VII in 2015. Since then, there have been numerous reports surrounding Disney’s larger plans for the Star Wars franchise, and now the word has come down from Disney CEO Bob Iger: we’ll be seeing standalone Star Wars movies in addition to the new trilogy, and they’re already in the works.
Iger appeared on the cable network CNBC to discuss the financial aspects of running the Disney Corporation, and the newly acquired Lucasfilm and its subsidiaries. During the interview, he mentioned that screenwriters Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are currently developing “a few” projects that would take place in the Star Wars universe, but which would not serve as part of the main Star Wars trilogies. Iger also says that they want to maintain the integrity of the Star Wars brand for all of its fans, which is why they have been bringing on the very best in the industry to oversee the new Star Wars movies. Namedropping “Larry Kasdan” as the writer of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi was a nice touch, Mr. Iger.
In recent weeks, there have been reports about a standalone Star Wars movie centering on the Jedi Master Yoda, along with Robert Rodriguez sounding off about his desire to make a Han Solo-centric movie. There’s still no confirmation as to the subject matter of these standalone movies, but it appears that Kasdan and Kinberg are at the core of these first Star Wars feature spinoffs.
