The movie project Robopocalypse has been in development for quite some time but now that the film has an official release date, Steven Spielberg is committed to finally making this sci-fi film after he is finished with Lincoln, which comes out this December. Spielberg also wants actor Chris Hemsworth in the epic movie. In fact he sounds kind of smitten with the 28-year-old actor.

Hemsworth had a giant year with the humongous success of The Avengers and the moderate success of Snow White and the Huntsman. He has proven that he is more than just a pretty face with an amazing body; he’s actually a good actor with a huge amount of charm.

Robopocalypse is the best-selling novel by author Daniel H. Wilson and is set in the future where after a robot uprising; humans and robots battle each other for dominance. Although it is not clear what role Hemsworth will play, the book synopsis refers to an “isolated U.S. soldier who witnesses a ‘pacification unit’ go haywire.”

Robopocalypse will be Spielberg’s return to big budget, large-scale moviemaking in the sci-fi genre after his 2005 film, War of the Worlds (Would you count Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as a sci-fi film?). The script was written by screenwriter Kario Salem (The Score) and was revised by Drew Goddard (Cabin In The Woods, which also featured Hemsworth). Robopocalypse is also a co-production with Dreamworks, Disney and 20th Century Fox and will be released on April 25th 2014. It’s strange but this feels more like a summer movie.
