Dead Space 3 Trailer Plays Up The Action

Between Groundhog’s Day, the Super Bowl, Valentine’s Day, and the fact that it only has 28 days, February is a month that can sometimes slip right by without anyone realizing that they haven’t been been getting scared shitless while fighting aliens in space. Well, put your astronaut diapers on.

Dead Space 3 will be hitting stores tomorrow, February 5th, and EA has released a new story-based trailer letting rabid fans and soon-to-be-rabid indifferent people know just what to expect when they step back into the shoes of engineer/space hero Isaac Clarke. Leaving ships and space cities behind, Clarke will be taking on Necromorphs and other baddies on the hostile planet Tau Volantis, which could be the key to ending the whole Necromorph infestation for good. Smile giddily at the bullet-heavy trailer below.

Dead Space 3 seems to be taking hints from that other successful horror franchise, Resident Evil, in keeping with the cooperative mode between players. Thankfully, it doesn’t look like it’ll awkwardly force you to split your concentration and time like R.E. has been.

This time around, players can be aided by a friend who takes on the character of Earthgov Sergeant John Carver. The draw here seems to be more in the added experience that the second player allows, such as additional story details and different gameplay mechanics. So long as it plays at least half as well as Contra, I’m down.

A large new location and new enemies look to make this one of the better early-year game releases. The trailers heap on the action elements and less of the scares, but I have no doubt there this game has just as many corners as the other two, with something equally frightening waiting on the other side.
