Darth Vader’s Helmet Made Out Of Electronic Junk

Have you ever taken a look at all the old junk you’ve got lying around and thought to yourself, “Hell, I could probably create a Sith Lord out of this or something.” And then actually did it instead of writing it down in a dirty notepad before finishing up a meal of breadsticks dipped in a mixture of powdered cheese and bourbon? Well, Indiana sculptor Gabriel Dishaw has, though I can’t speak for his eating habits.
A self-described junk artist, Dishaw has created elaborately fancy shoes and freaky-looking creature skulls, to name a few examples, out of old electronic parts and random other bits of non-perishable trash. And while each one has its own appeal, the Mack (Luke) Daddy of the bunch is a spot-on model of Darth Vader’s menacing mask and helmet, composed from typewriter and computer parts, sitting atop a mount made from circuit boards and metal.
To hear Dishaw tell it: “My passion for Star Wars and one of the baddest villains of all time has carried over to my up-cycled art.” He continues:
Working with metal and mechanical objects has been crucial in the evolution of my art and freeing my imagination. It provides me an avenue to express myself in a way that both helps me and the environment. I take the items people no longer have use for and that would normally end up in a landfill and in turn create something new and up-cycled. My mission is to create dialogue and help find creative ways of dealing with this discarded tech in an environmentally sound way.
This looks a hell of a lot better than the “fish made out of coat hangers” and similar things that I usually see people put out in booths at arts and craft festivals. Of course, this just makes me want other similar items, like The Dude made out of milk caps, vodka bottles, and rugs. Or even a Han Solo made out of Indiana Jones and Witness DVDs.
