Corporate Control Is An Alien Conspiracy In The Trailer For Branded

As a genre science fiction has a long history taking on corporate culture, blind consumerism, and unquestioning publics. Countless films, books, and stories have dealt with these themes, and new alien invasion flick Branded (AKA Moscow 2017) aims to tread that well-worn territory. Branded is little bit They Live!, a little bit Brave New Worlds, and a little bit Invasion of the Body Snatchers, with schlock and questionable special effects to spare. Check out the trailer for this latest look into the near future dystopia where sinister aliens are invading our minds and out retailers.

Granted the trailer is dubbed over in Russian (Branded is actually an English-language movie), but you get the point. Stoppard is the handsome hero who has to discover the secret, unravel the mystery, stop the aliens, and, presumably, get the girl in the process. Here’s the synopsis:

BRANDED is a dark and mind-bending journey into a surreal, dystopian society where corporate brands have unleashed a monstrous global conspiracy to get inside our minds and keep the population disillusioned, dependent and passive. One man’s Misha (Ed Stoppard) passion to unlock the truth behind the conspiracy will lead to an epic battle with the hidden forces that really control our world.

This could either be a lot of fun in a Saturday night SyFy movie of the week kind of way, or absolutely atrocious in the exact same way. Either way, we’re still going to watch it because maybe, just maybe, it’ll be a damn fine time.

Branded stars Stoppard, Leelee Sobieski, Jeffrey Tambor, and Max Von Sydow. Roadside attractions picked up Branded last month, and has an eye on a September release. Let’s hope this is better than Skyline.
