NBC’s quirky sitcom Community has some pretty strong geek leanings. Community‘s Doctor Who-inspired Inspector Spacetime show-within-a-show has played an increasingly large role in the show over the last season, and things are about to take another turn for the geeky. Battlestar Gallactica’s hottest Cylon, Tricia Helfer, is joining the embattled show for a guest spot in the upcoming fourth season.
The episode, reportedly the fourth in the season, finds Abed (Danny Pudi) on his way to an Inspector Spacetime convention. What better place for the pop culture-obsessed, budding filmmaker with a mean sci-fi bent? Helfer will show up as Lauren, a fellow mega-fan of the fictional cult favorite, one who just happens to be incredibly beautiful.
Of course Abed would fall in love with a toaster (I’m assuming he falls in love with her, who wouldn’t?). Seeing as he himself has often been accused of being a robot, this turn of events seems entirely fitting. And he did fall in love with a character in an 8-bit videogame during season three.
At the con Abed will also meet and befriend a fellow fanboy, Toby, played by Matt Lucas (Bridesmaids). In a roundabout fashion, the two discover they have met before, discussing the Inspector online. All of this will not sit well with Abed’s roommate and hetero life mate, Troy (Donald Glover). Malcolm McDowell also joins the cast as their new history professor. I see conflict in the future for the Greendale gang.
Community returns on a new night, Fridays at 8:30 (so it won’t conflict with Fringe), beginning October 19th.
