Earlier this year, director Joe Carnahan released a “sizzle reel” made up of New York City gangster movies set in the 1970s to pitch Disney and Marvel for a possible Daredevil reboot. Now Carnahan has shared another video from a movie that will never be, this time for the long-gestating science fiction project, Gemini Man.

The Gemini Man project was pitched with actor Clint Eastwood in mind for the lead role and then eventually turned down by Disney. The high-concept story involved an older government agent (Clint Eastwood) who is the target of a younger assassin who turns out to be a younger clone of Eastwood’s character. Gemini Man sounds a lot like Rian Johnson’s Looper, but with time travel swapped out for cloning as the key technology. Carnahan made the sizzle reel to illustrate the general tone and feel of the doomed upcoming project.

The YouTube video came with a message from Joe Carnahan explaining his intent for the video: “Sizzle reel for a defunct movie project that I was interested in doing with Bruckheimer at Disney. I was really fired up to work with one of my heroes: CLINT. That was the big reason why I put this reel together.”

It’s interesting to imagine who could’ve played the younger Clint Eastwood (maybe Ben Affleck or Christian Bale), but now the video will have to remain a relic of a cool-sounding project that never made it to screen.
