J.J. Abrams landing the Star Wars: Episode VII directing gig is some of the biggest entertainment news in ages, and pretty much everybody has a strong opinion about it. But what does the crew of the Enterprise think of the move?

In an interview with USA Today, the latter-day Captain Kirk, Chris Pine, voiced his love for J.J. Abrams, but also expressed some concern over the future of the Star Trek franchise.

‘The only way I’ll be disappointed is if he doesn’t direct our third movie,’ Pine [says]. ‘I think if that turns out to be the case we’ll have to kidnap him and hold him hostage until he agrees to do a third.’

While it sounds like he’s joking, there is some truth behind his words. Since hearing of the Star Wars news, it was revealed that Abrams would continue on with the Star Trek franchise as Star Trek 3’s producer, but it remains to be seen if that will be the extent of his involvement. Pine continues: “From my standpoint, J.J. is a science-fiction genius. To have him over in the Star Wars camp is going to be a great thing. I’m sure it’s going to be a great film.”

When asked if he would appear in the new Star Wars movie if Abrams asked him to, Pine cautiously stated, “Now you’re really playing with fire. I wouldn’t say that even lightly.”
