It’s a question that has plagued mankind from the dawn of time. If old school and new school video games magically came to life to do epic battle for the fate of the world, who would win? The resulting conflict might look a little something like this video.

Going in I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this short film from directors Brandon Laatsch and Freddie Wong is damn clever, and well worth the three and a half minutes it takes to watch. They envision a scenario where the likes of Lara Croft, Nathan Drake, and Master Chief from Halo go up against blocky tanks, pixilated centipedes, and asteroids that just won’t stop splitting in half.

When a swarm of 8-bit video game characters bursts into the future via an Avengers-esque wormhole, or something, the shit really hits the fan. And this, of course, leads to the guy from Assassin’s Creed running all over the city, doing unnecessary flips off random obstacles and climbing walls. That’s really the best way to combat an invading horde, through parkour. Lara Croft, however, pulls off a nice move, hijacking one of the lumpy spacecrafts and co-opting its powers for her own ends.

Who do you think would win in an all-out, old-school-versus-new-school throw-down? Sure, the new jacks have better weapons and technology on their side, but as you can see from this video, when machine guns go up against asteroids, the asteroids emerge victorious.
