Casting for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is only a month away from the start of production and now actor Patrick St. Esprit will jointhe ever-growing cast of the sequel. St. Esprit will play the role of Romulus Thread, the new Head Peacekeeper of District 12.
The character of Romulus Thread is described in Suzanne Collin’s best-selling novel Catching Fire as harsh and unforgiving. Thread is extremely loyal to the Capital and is free to punish anyone who has broken the law. He even threatens Katniss Everdeen when she returns home after winning the previous Hunger Games for her district.
St. Esprit is mostly known as a solid character actor on TV and was featured on Sons of Anarchy, The Chicago Code and Rizzoli & Isles. He has appeared in a few movies like Super 8 and United 93 but The Hunger Games: Catching Fire would be his first notable role in a major motion picture.
St. Esprit will be joined by other new additions, Jena Malone, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amanda Plummer and Lynn Cohen. The sequel Catching Fire begins with the return of Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark to their home, District 12. They are now the new champions of the 74th Hunger Games. Their homecoming is short lived when they are ordered to go on a “Victory Tour” before the 75th Hunger Games begins. Along the way, Katniss gets a better sense of the rebellion brewing in Panem’s districts.
The production of Catching Fire will start in September and will hit theaters the following year on November 22nd.
