The new trailer and poster for the science fiction movie from writer/director duo Jamie Bradshaw and Aleksandr Dulerayn, Branded, has surfaced. The film takes place in a dystopian future world where corporations control consumers with their products and advertising to their own evil ends. Perhaps this premise is too on-the-nose to be sophisticated science fiction storytelling.

Watch the first trailer for Branded below…

This trailer is action packed, yet I can’t help feeling the ideas in this film may get away from them.
It starts funny enough with a fake fast food ad, but soon after we realize the true evils behind it, a corporation that has figured out a code in human DNA which will manipulate them into buying more and perhaps help them to take over the world. Misha Galkin (Ed Stoppard) has figured out what this faceless corporation, headed by an unnamed CEO (Max von Sydow), is up to and tries to bring them down.

Branded feels like Andrew Niccol’s In Time or S1m0ne. Hopefully it translates to the screen better when it opens on September 7th.
