Keeping track of what Ridley Scott is up to may as well be an Olympic sport. The man is not only constantly adding jobs, but he’s always so damned secretive about them that it’s nearly impossible to get a read on what it is he’s actually doing with his films. Such has been the case with Prometheus, his return to sci-fi and the Alien franchise, and it seems like that mystique will rear its ugly head again with the director’s upcoming Blade Runner film.

IndieWire was able to bring us one very minor detail from the film’s producer Andrew Kosove, who informed them that they’d be announcing the screenwriter for the return to the Blade Runner world sometime in the first two months of the year. Kosove also mentioned that while they aren’t 100% sure this will be Ridley’s next movie, he seems confident that it will be.

Here’s the thing about Ridley. Ridley is a special guy. He’s a force of nature. He’s got a lot of stuff that he’s working on. I believe it’s an extremely high priority for Ridley, that’s what he’s said to me. This project is moving forward aggressively in development.

Also to be announced around the same time will be whether or not this is a prequel or a sequel, but even that information can change. Prometheus began as a direct prequel to Alien, then was announced as a totally stand-alone film once writer Damon Lindelof got done with it, but you can see from the recently released trailer it contains about 1000 references to the original film. There’s always change in the world of Ridley Scott, so don’t expect anything different once the ball gets rolling on Blade Runner. More to come as this news develops.
