Now that they’ve cast Hugo’s Asa Butterfield as Ender Wiggin, the Ender’s Game movie is moving forward to fill out the rest of the cast. Their latest addition may be their most perfect casting decision yet: Ben Kingsley is playing Mazer Rackham.
That name should be familiar to those of you who’ve read the books. Mazer’s a pivotal figure in Ender as the heroic, genius General who commanded Earth’s armies in the initial onslaught of the war against alien bug invaders. If you’ve read the books you probably already pictures someone a lot like Kingsley as the character, in your head. This is perfect casting. It doesn’t hurt that Kingsley recently worked with star Asa Butterfield on Hugo too. They’ve already shown they have chemistry together.
Over at THR their writeup of Kingsley’s involvement contains quite a few factual errors which make it clear that they don’t actually know anything about Ender’s Game, but they do know that Kingsley is currently in talks for the part. That means the studio wants to hire him, and now it’s just a matter of working out the details. We’ll let you know when it’s a done deal.
