The Super Bowl is almost here again, with the Patriots and the Giants set to square off this Sunday while millions of football fans play armchair quarterback and metric tons of junk food. That’s all well and good, but we all know what the real attraction is: the commercials. Tucked amongst paeans to consumerism both funny and forgettable, we’ll also get first looks at new trailers for some of the year’s most anticipated films. One of the biggest movie events on the horizon is Joss Whedon’s Avengers film, which finally brings celebrated Marvel heroes such as Captain America, Iron Man, and Thor together to fight evil on the big screen. While we’ll have to wait until Sunday to see the full trailer, a short preview has popped up online. Take a look.

At 17 seconds long, there’s not much to go on, but fortunately it is mostly new footage. We’ve got New York getting exploded, Thor blasting lightning all over the place, the Hulk acting pissed, and Scarlet Johansson looking unfairly hot. I don’t know about you, but my appetite is whetted. May 4th seems a long way away.
