Avatar-land Coming To Disney’s Animal Kingdom

If you’re one of those people who just can’t seem to sate their hunger for more Avatar material, I’ve got some great news for you. Though it will take some time to complete, James Cameron has partnered up with Disney to develop an Avatar-themed area in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. There’s a lot of reasons this is a good idea, not the least of which being that they stand to make a hell of a lot of money from fans who wouldn’t usually visit this particular park.

Animal Kingdom is a natural fit for Pandora since they’re all about nature and trees and that kind of stuff already. There’s even a big ass tree they could re-purpose as Home Tree, though they haven’t said whether or not they’d be expanding the park to make room for the new zone, or simply renovating an existing portion like Universal Studios Florida did for Harry Potter.

From a press release at Deadline, Disney’s president and CEO Rob Iger had this to say about working with Cameron to bring his world to life:

James Cameron is a groundbreaking filmmaker and gifted storyteller who shares our passion for creativity, technological innovation and delivering the best experience possible. With this agreement, we have the extraordinary opportunity to combine James’ talent and vision with the imagination and expertise of Disney.

Cameron himself is also really psyched to get working on the project for which he will use his existing knowledge of the upcoming sequels to include never before seen locations and characters into the park. Expect many stilt walkers prancing around in blue jumpsuit to scare the living shit out of you in the next few years. They’ve certainly got their work cut out for them translating one of the most visually stunning locations ever created into a real life theme park. But if anyone can do it right, it’s James Cameron.
