First Assassin’s Creed 3 Trailer Trades Free Running For Tree Running

Last week Ubisoft put to rest months of speculation about the setting and protagonist of the much-anticipated Assassin’s Creed III, courtesy of some box-art shots and a look at the next Game Informer cover. Set in America during the Revolutionary War, the game will follow the adventures of a Native-born assassin called Connor (although his birth name, as Kotaku explains, is the Ratohnhaké:ton). Now Ubisoft has released the first trailer for ACIII, and it’s exactly as purty as you’d expect, showing Connor skulking through a snow-draped forest dispatching Redcoats. The winter setting obviously allows Connor to maintain the series’ traditional white Assassin’s garb, which is handy. It just wouldn’t be the same if he was sporting Robin Hood green or anachronistic camo print in order to blend in with the spring foliage. The trailer also answers one question fans have been speculating about since last week’s reveal. Since Revolutionary America brings to mind images of wide-open spaces rather than the sprawling cities of earlier games, how would the series’ trademark free running work? The answer: turns out Connor may have some Tarzan DNA mixed in there, because he sprints through treetops like a squirrel on Ritalin. Check out the trailer:
Assassin’s Creed III will arrive on October 30, 2012, for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC.
